Correction of Military Records

The secretary of a military department, acting through a board for correction of military records, has authority to change any military record when necessary to correct an error or remove an injustice. A correction board may consider applications for correction of a military record, including a review of a discharge issued by courts martial.

The veteran, survivor or legal representative generally must file a request for correction within three years after discovery of an alleged error or injustice. The board may excuse failure to file within the prescribed time, however, if it finds it would be in the interest of justice to do so. It is an applicant's responsibility to show why the filing of the application was delayed and why it would be in the interest of justice for the board to consider it despite the delay.

To justify any correction, it is necessary to show to the satisfaction of the board that the alleged entry or omission in the records was in error or unjust. Applications should include all available evidence, such as signed statements of witnesses or a brief of arguments supporting the requested correction.

Application is made with DD Form 149, available at VA offices, from veterans organizations or from the Internet

Subject: New Memorial

Hey guys,

We just dedicated our new veteran's memorial today and rededicated the south half of the park and named it back to Memorial Park.

An F-16 fighter slipped right out of the canyon above town and over flew the park, did a U-turn in the middle of the Snowshoe (mountain south of town) and the pilot drove that plane right up Main Street, hit the afterburner and blew right up over the cliffs in a straight up climb.  Beautiful!  It was so stinking cool, I cried.

A crusty (and salty) old WWII Jarhead was telling anyone that would listen that it undoubtedly was a Marine pilot.  I heard one lady ask him if he was sure and he said, "Sure I'm sure."

She again asked, "How do you know?"  Bill said, "Because he found us!"  It was actually Air Force jet out of the Academy in Colorado Springs.
Very cool how all active duty, reserves and veterans will go to any length and/or expense to serve one another.

Chuckles...

An old Corpsman, in his mid 90's, with hair well groomed, a great looking suit, a flower in his lapel, smelling slightly of aftershave, and presenting a well cared for image, walks into an upscale cocktail lounge.

Seated at the bar, an elderly lady in her mid 80's, also well dressed and attractive is sitting alone.

The old Doc walks over, sits down beside her and orders a drink.  He takes a sip, then turns to her and says...

"So tell me, do I come here often?"
