3/3 Deploys to Iraq
December 20, 2005 29 Palms, CA
17 alumni of 3/3 Nam gathered with the active duty Marines and USN/FMF at the completion of 30 days training at Camp Wilson. We were there to offer our support to these young warriors as the basic mission. The training, discipline, motivation and leadership (top to bottom) was awe inspiring! We can be assured that America's Battalion is in great hands! We met the whole Bn at the base theater late AM. Bn CO LtCol Norm Cooling spoke to the Bn, and his counsel was admirable. Otto Lehrack spoke with them briefly about the history of 3/3, and each of us got to say a few words to the group.
The MEB CG arrived and gave a very personable presentation, allowing for a Q&A session. Later that afternoon, about 10 of us left for Camp Wilson for chow and beer with the grunts (missed chow, but not the beer). We mingled with the troops and chatted a couple of hours, before departing for the SNCO club to meet the Officers/Staff and the rest of our group. Everyone we interacted with made us feel very special, and I hope we had the same affect on them.
We had the opportunity to have a mini-reunion of sorts, and it was a gas seeing old friends, and meeting new ones. We also visited the PX and Cash Sales. Prices at the PX were much in line with Wal-Mart, with minor exceptions... however, there is nothing else within 30 miles or more.
I hope to be in Hawaii to welcome our legacy back home... anyone else? (August-October?)
I suggest contacting the 3/3 Support mechanisms in place in Hawaii for care packages, mail etc. More info on this as I get it. ______Doc
